Mid fall – everything’s slowing down in nature. There’s a lot to be said for following the rhythm of the days health-wise. The days are getting shorter and it’s easier to stay in bed a bit longer if you can. Though the year is winding down, there’s still much to be done.
Many artists participate in small works releases closer to the holidays to give collectors an opportunity to purchase work at affordable prices and for holiday gift giving. Christmas commissions have to be completed. All of the work that goes along with exhibition applications and preparations, not to mention all the personal stuff.
But it’s also an excellent time to start thinking about next year:
Evaluating what endeavors worked well and not so well
Looking at your budget – profits and losses
Assessing the quality or direction of your work
You can start small by creating lists, for instance, particular grants you’d like to apply for, workshops or classes you want to attend, books or supplies that aren’t on your regular shopping list if you keep one.
Take a look at your inventory of supplies. Are there books or paints or tools you no longer need? Creating space for new things can be energizing. Join the Artist Garage group on Facebook to sell materials you no longer use, or donate them.
Writing lists gets things out of your head and helps you be better organized. Even if you don’t start implementing changes now, knowing what you want to do come the new year will make the start so much easier.
Happy planning! And if you need assistance with any of the written materials for your professional creative dossier, please do not hesitate to get in touch!
