Welcome to 2023! While I’m not one to make resolutions I do love a fresh start. I spent one New Year’s week on vacation and coming back in the middle of January really wreaked havoc with my psychological clock and the idea of getting a fresh start seemed stale.
I’m not going anywhere this holiday season but I did spend the latter months of 2022 getting several things on my to-do list for 2023 ready to roll to make the transition to the new year even easier.
One of these is reviewing my fee structure. In the past I offered my services at an hourly rate. I’m moving to a flat fee, which makes it easier for me to manage payments and eliminates any uncertainty for my clients. You can see it here.
Another is dealing with the social media calendar. I detest the social media calendar. But if I leave it to the last minute, I know I end up with a self defeating last-minute sounding post.
I’ve taken stock and eliminated several items from my expense column so I can reallocate funds for other purposes, like trading a mastermind group for a class, cancelling subscriptions that are nice to have to make room for a higher budget for art supplies.
Streamlining is an investment in time. It’s easier to make better decisions when the decks are clear. When the decks are clear, the brain is clear and it’s easier to see what you need to get and what you need to let go.
The rapidly changing landscape of life demands a bit of fluidity on our part not only to survive, but also to succeed. What frustrating and non-productive endeavors are you getting rid of this year? What new things, tools or habits are you trading them for?
If you’re struggling with your writing tasks (yes, you need to update your bio for submissions, freshen that artist statement – and when’s the last time you took a look at your website content?) do get in touch. Let me take the writing, organization, or editing off your plate so you can focus on all the rest!
If you are a visual artist looking for help with your business career as a whole, I recommend ArtNxtLevel. Tell Sergio I sent you!
Lastly for those looking to use resolutions to help make the world a better place I recommend this post from the Everyday Sociology blog.
