Back in October of 2018, I wrote that your writing should be a means to get your information across clearly and concisely and that it’s not meant to be a conversation. This was in refrerence to unneeded phraseology that can bog your message down. Things like, “Needless to say”, that you might use conversationally.
I have to clarify though, because you want to engage your reader, your audience, in the same way you would an old friend, which means your writing should be genuine and reflect your personality. At the same time you express your ideas in a way that is unique to you, you must still keep it focused and concise.
Even with something as cut and dried as a press release there is still room for humor, zaniness, solemnity, or an introspective point of view as long as you remember
- the purpose of your piece
- your audience
